I’ve had to work on a couple of HP Proliant DL380 G3 servers. As far as hardware goes, the HP Proliant is usually fairly bullet proof. In a few of the HP Proliant DL380 G3, under iLO, we would see the following:
473 12/28/2012 19:10:00 Server power removed.
474 12/28/2012 19:10:00 Server power restored.
475 12/28/2012 19:11:00 Server power restored.
476 12/28/2012 19:11:00 Server power removed.
477 12/28/2012 19:14:00 Server power removed.
478 12/28/2012 19:14:00 Server power restored.
479 12/28/2012 19:15:00 Server power restored.
Over and over and over again…
What I found was, the twin power supplies go into a HP Power Module. The Power module, HP Part number 309629-001 [Spare # 314670-001], had to be replaced. Seems the Power module would get confused between the power supplies and drop power to the server. What did make this worse, one plug would be into a UPS system, the other power was into the wall directly [or via a power strip].
